River Trail

The River Trail follows the Rio Grande from the Upper Valley in El Paso to the Texas/New Mexico state line. The trail is 8.5 miles EACH WAY, making it a 17-mile round trip. There is a paved bike path, and many people also ride on the dirt road at the top of the levee that follows the river. At Vinton Road, two miles from the north end of the trail, you must ride the road bridge over the river to continue on the trail on the other side of the river.
This is a great beginner ride, kids ride, etc. Be on the lookout for big birds (waterfowl and raptors) and coyotes—you can even see where beavers have felled a few trees along the river’s edge.
