Chamizal National Memorial

Chamizal National Memorial & Amphitheater, located near the Bridge of the Americas, recognizes the 1963 amicable resolution of the dispute between the U.S. and Mexico over this section of borderland. There’s a 500-seat theater, where visitors can see an interesting 20-minute video documenting the history of the border. The national memorial includes a 55-acre park, a museum, and the Los Paisanos Gallery. The facility is open to the public from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. There are no entrance fees although there may be fees associated with theater performances and other permits. The amphitheater is home to free summer concert series Music Under the Stars and the annual Siglo de Oro Drama Festival, an international celebration of the dramatic arts from Spain’s Golden Age.
